In December 2000, Sergey Khachatryan (1985, Yerevan, Armenia) won First Prize in the VIII International Jean Sibelius competition in Helsinki, becoming the youngest ever winner in the history of the competition. In 2005 he also claimed the first prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition.
Sergey has performed with all the major UK orchestras and made his debut at the BBC Proms in July 2005 with the BBC Philharmonic performing the first Shostakovich Violin concerto. In 2006 he undertook a major US concert tour with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Summer 2006, Sergey made his New York debut performing the Beethoven concerto in the Mostly Mozart festival.
Sergey’s international profile has further developed through collaborations with the NHK Symphony, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Frankfurt Radiosinfonieorchester, RSO Berlin, Munich Philharmonic, Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra and American orchestras such as the Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony.
With his sister Lusine Khachatryan he has performed recitals at the Wigmore Hall London and Alte Oper in Frankfurt, the National Auditorium in Madrid and at Carnegie Hall, as well as the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées Paris, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Sergey has released 3 CD’s on the Naïve label. The first was dedicated to Sibelius and Khachaturian violin concertos (2003), the second to the Shostakovich violin concertos (2006) and the most recent one to Franck and Shostakovich violin sonatas (2008).
